Your

have
not had to deal with viruses, spyware, adware or any
problems with malicious web sites. Apple Computers
are based on the UNIX operating system which has been
around
for over 30 years.
Microsoft
Office
When
you get your Macintosh you should also buy the basic
version of Microsoft Office. This includes Word and
Excel and will allow you to easily exchange files with
your friends with Windows based computers.

What is a firewall?
A firewall basically closes
the unneeded features and connections on a computer so
they cannot be used
by malicious software to cause problems on your system.
There are two kinds of firewalls - hardware & software.
Software
firewall - Both Macintosh and Windows computers
come with built-in software firewalls. The Windows
firewall is on by default. Use the Control Panels- Firewall
to check that it is indeed turned on. Macintosh computers
come with the firewall turned off. Use the Sharing Preferences
Firewall Panel to turn it on.
Hardware
firewall - When your computer is connected
to the internet through a fast connection you have
the potential to
be connected
to every other computer in the world. A Linksys router
(or any brand of router) allows you to connect multiple
computers to a single connection, but it also "hides" your
computer from the internet and blocks out all of the
malicious "noise"
on the internet that is constantly bombarding your
computer
looking for security holes. Even if you only have one
computer your really should get a router/firewall.
They only cost about $50 and are really worth it for
the protection you get.
Firefox
Web Browser
Are
you using Internet Explorer for web surfing? IE has
so many features that make is very vulnerable
to all kinds of malicious web site code. I highly recommend
that you switch to Mozilla Firefox browser.

Web
Browser security tip: Don't use any browser
plug-ins or extensions. These browser add-ons can
possibly make
your system
more
vulnerable.

Business Web Sites
The
best way to build and market a small business web site
So
many small businesses spend hundreds or even thousands
of dollars on a web site with little or no results. I
have never been able to find a small business that
is happy
and successful with their web site. I had thought about
starting my own web site business for years, but I could
never find a successful small business web site model.
